RF Technician 3

If you are an RF Technician with extensive expertise in the Installation & Commissioning of RF systems, this is your chance to join our dynamic team and oversee the implementation and commissioning of cutting-edge wireless communication systems that play a vital role in public safety and life-saving efforts.

RFS normal business hours are M-F 8:30am to 5:30pm, at a customer location or at our office. You are required to commute to customer locations within the NY/NJ area, using your own vehicle or public transportation or a company vehicle in the future, so a valid driver’s license is a must. When not at a customer’s site, you will report to our South Hackensack office. You will be working in a fast-paced environment and must have the ability to meet deadlines and create high-quality deliverables with minimal supervision and to supervise and train others.

As an RF Technician 3, your primary responsibility is to manage the install, commission, optimize, troubleshoot, service and maintain RF (Radio Frequency) equipment and systems utilized for public safety (ERCES and ARCS) systems, private land mobile radio services, and in-building cellular coverage. You will be expected to perform all duties allocated to RF Field Tech I and RF Field Tech II levels.

Qualifications: Technical Knowledge

  1. Education and Experience:
    • Must have a High school diploma or equivalent; a relevant bachelor’s degree or technical certification in engineering, electronics, telecommunications, or a related field is preferred.
    • Minimum of 8 years of industry experience working hands-on with RF systems, including Bi-Directional Amplifiers (BDAs) and in-building cellular DAS systems.
    • Experience should include a strong understanding of RF propagation fundamentals, antenna theory, and troubleshooting.
  2. Knowledge of RF Communication Systems:
    • In-depth knowledge of RF communication principles, protocols, and standards.
    • Knowledge of public safety communication systems, private land mobile radio services, and in-building celluar coverage.
  3. Certifications
    • OSHA 30 plus 10 Certification
    • FCC GROL License
    • Certified by RF equipment manufacturer(s) for installation and maintenance.
  4. Proficient with Microsoft Office including Visio or equivalent CAD software.
  5. Technical Skills:
    • Must be able to properly terminate RF coaxial cables and properly connect low-voltage wiring.
    • Ability to sweep and test cables.
    • Ability to read and interpret site plans and system construction drawings, technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals.
    • Proficiency in working with RF equipment, including Bi-Directional Amplifiers (BDAs) and in-building cellular DAS systems.
    • Ability to provide expertise to aid with design of new systems and redesign of existing systems.
    • Understand and create RF link budgets.
  6. Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting:
    • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose RF system issues effectively.
    • Ability to perform tests, analyze data, and recommend corrective actions for system optimization.
    • Implement corrective actions and repairs to wireless communications systems.
    • Perform testing and diagnostics at circuit board level.
  7. Communication and Teamwork:
    • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members, engineers, and clients.
    • Ability to work well within a team and follow instructions from Department Manager and RF design engineers.
    • Demonstrated ability to clearly present information through spoken and written word and with all levels of an organization.
    • Able to create technical presentations and present to various audiences.
    • Possess strong decision making and problem-solving skills.
  8. Safety Awareness:
    • Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines while working at heights or in confined spaces, if required.
    • Understanding of safety regulations and the ability to identify and mitigate potential risks.

Responsibilities

  1. Installation and Commissioning:
    • Responsible for all technical aspects of the installation, configuration, and testing of RF Solutions projects, including supervision of junior technicians.
    • Verify system installations including distributed antenna systems (DAS), adhere to system design, ensure proper antenna placements and mounting, best practices are being followed.
    • Ability to commission in-building cellular DAS and BDA systems from multiple manufacturers.
    • Conduct site surveys and prepare reports on the feasibility and requirements for RF system and equipment installation.
  2. Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
    • Develop routine maintenance and inspections schedule of RF equipment to ensure optimal performance and adherence to industry standards.
    • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair RF equipment issues.
    • Document maintenance activities, including equipment changes, repairs, and upgrades.
  3. Testing and Optimization:
    • Exhibit experience and proficiency in using RF test equipment, such as Anritsu spectrum analyzers.
    • Analyze test results to identify system performance issues; initiate corrective actions.
    • Ability to perform accurate measurements, analyze data, and interpret results to optimize RF systems.
  4. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Excellent record-keeping and documentation skills to maintain accurate records of equipment configurations, maintenance activities, and troubleshooting procedures.
    • Prepare detailed tecnical reports on installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
  5. Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines during system equipment installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
    • Knowledge of safety procedures and the ability to identify and mitigate potential risks.
