RF Engineer 2

We are looking for an RF Engineer who is eager to develop the highest standard of RF system design for wireless networks that provide optimal coverage, capacity, and quality of service. They will serve as an RF design engineer reporting to the Department Manager.

RFS normal business hours are M-F 8:30am to 5:30pm, at a customer location or at our office. You are required to commute to customer locations within the NY/NJ area, using your own vehicle or public transportation or a company vehicle in the future, so a valid driver’s license is a must. When not at a customer’s site, you will report to our South Hackensack office. You will be working in a fast-paced environment and must have the ability to meet deadlines and create high-quality deliverables.

As an RF Engineer 2, your primary responsibility is the engineering and design, of wireless communications for public safety systems, private land mobile radio services, and in-building cellular coverageThe ideal candidate will have expertise in wireless communication technologies and possess industry-standard certifications, such as iBwave, to ensure the successful implementation of wireless solutions.

Qualifications: Technical Knowledge

  1. Education and Experience:
    • Must have a relevant bachelor’s degree or technical certification in engineering, electronics, telecommunications, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 4 years of industry experience working hands-on with RF system design, including Bi-Directional Amplifiers (BDAs) and in-building cellular DAS systems.
    • Experience should include a strong understanding of RF propagation fundamentals, antenna theory, link budgets, and troubleshooting.
  2. Knowledge of RF Communication Systems:
    • In-depth knowledge of RF communication principles, protocols, and standards.
    • Knowledge of public safety communication systems, private land mobile radio services, and in-building celluar coverage.
  3. Certifications
    • Industry standard certification in iBwave with demonstrated proficiency in wireless network design and planning using iBwave software.
    • Certified by at least 2 major manufacturers of RF equipment for design and commissioning.
  4. Proficient with Microsoft Office and standard business applications:
    • Includes Outlook, Word, Teams and Excel.
    • Visio or Auto CAD experience
  5. Technical Skills:
    • Expert knowledge of active and passive RF equipment and materials, including head end and remote units, antennas, amplifiers, repeaters, and battery backup units.
    • Ability to read and interpret site plans and system construction drawings, technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals.
    • Solid understanding of wireless communication technologies, including RF propagation, antenna theory, modulation schemes, and wireless site survey techniques.
    • Experience with fiber-based RF distribution.
  6. Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record, as travel to different work sites may be required.
  7. Must be familiar with RF test equipment, including data collection tools and spectrum analyzers.
  8. Successfully pass a background check and drug test.
  9. Have reliable transportation to and from work and customer jobsites.

Responsibilities

  1. Engineering and Design:
    • Develop comprehensive designs for public safety/life safety radio communications, cellular Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), and 2-way radio mobile communications systems, taking into consideration client requirements, industry standards, and best practices.
  2. Technical Documentation and Reporting:
    • Prepare detailed technical documentation, including system designs, equipment specifications, installation guidelines, and test procedures, to support project implementation and maintenance activities.
    • Demonstrated excellent record-keeping and organizational skills needed to maintain accurate records of equipment configurations, maintenance activities, and troubleshooting procedures.
    • Document any modifications or upgrades made to the RF system designs.
  3. Develop System Plans and Pricing:
    • Prepare accurate and informative Bills of Material based on designs, update as needed based on client and colleague input.
    • Understand and create RF link budgets.
  4. System Commissioning:
    • Perform system commissioning tasks as required, including equipment configuration, testing, and optimization, to ensure reliable and efficient wireless communications.
  5. Troubleshoot and Incident Resolution:
    • Identify and troubleshoot system performance issues, RF interference, and signal propagation problems to ensure optimal wireless network performance and coverage requirements.
  6. Compliance with Industry Standards:
    • Stay up to date with industry standards, regulations, and emerging technologies related to public safety/life safety communications, cellular DAS, and 2-way radio systems, and ensure compliance in all system designs and implementations.
