Senior RF Field Engineer – Cellular, ERCES & Two‑Way Radio
Job Description
RF Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior Field Engineer with deep expertise in cellular systems, Emergency Responder Communication Enhancement Systems (ERCES), and two‑way radio technologies. The ideal candidate will take a lead role field operations, support system engineering activities, and ensure the reliable performance of mission‑critical communications infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
RF Systems Testing & Commissioning
- Configure, test and optimize Cellular DAS, Public‑Safety ERCES, and Two‑Way radio systems across a variety of environments.
- Perform cable testing, signal level measurements, and equipment integration to meet code, safety, and performance requirements.
Testing, Troubleshooting & Optimization
- Conduct advanced RF diagnostics using spectrum analyzers, scanners, PIM testers, and related tools.
- Identify and resolve interference issues, coverage gaps, DAS infrastructure deficiencies and system performance problems.
- Validate system performance against AHJ, FCC, IFC, NFPA, and local code requirements.
System Maintenance & Quality Assurance
- Perform routine and corrective maintenance for active and passive RF systems.
- Document test results, system configurations, and troubleshooting actions with high accuracy.
- Ensure all work complies with industry standards and project specifications.
Project & Technical Leadership
- Serve as a senior technical resource for field teams, providing mentorship and training.
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, and AHJ representatives to support system design, troubleshooting, inspections, and acceptance testing.
- Review technical drawings, RF design documents, and installation plans.
Customer & Vendor Interaction
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly to clients, partners, and inspectors.
- Coordinate with equipment manufacturers for warranty support, software updates, and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years hands‑on experience with RF systems (Cellular DAS, ERCES/BDA, and Two‑Way radio).
- Strong knowledge of RF propagation, distributed antenna systems, and signal testing methods.
- Proficiency with tools such as spectrum analyzers, PIM testers, signal meters, and cable sweep equipment (e.g., Anritsu, PCTel, etc.).
- Familiarity with applicable standards: NFPA 72/1221/1225, IFC, FCC Part 90/20, and manufacturer best practices.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, RF design reports, and construction drawings.
- Strong documentation, communication, and leadership skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work in various indoor/outdoor environments.
- Engineering Degree or course work a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications such as:
- iBwave Level 1–3
- NICET Certificate
- FCC GROL
- OSHA 30/40
- Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Fiplex, Comba, Corning, SOLiD, CommScope, ADRF, JMA, etc.)
- Experience coordinating with AHJs and supporting acceptance testing for public‑safety systems.
A valid driver’s license is required with a clean record.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
